Why a hydrating toner, not an astringent

Toners have a bad reputation in India, and the alcohol-heavy ones sold for decades to close pores earned it. Pores do not open and close, and those formulas buy you fifteen minutes of matte followed by hours of rebound oil.

A modern hydrating toner does something different. It restores surface pH after cleansing, puts a layer of water back, and leaves skin damp so what follows sinks in instead of sitting on top. That matters more here than in temperate climates, between air conditioning, dry northern winters and salt loss through coastal humidity.

Press it in with your palms rather than wiping with a cotton pad, which absorbs most of the product and adds friction you do not need. Three or four presses is enough. Skin should feel dewy, not wet.
